Πολύ λιγότερα από όσα θα σου κοστίσει νέο PC με 7800GTX... :p Πιστεύω 400-600 ευρώ. ;) Προσωπική εκτίμηση πάντα. :)

Ρε παιδειά ερώτηση..

Είδα πρόσφατα ένα βιντεάκι του Κill Zone (PS3) και μου φυγαν τα μαλλιά (αφού είμαι..καραφλός τώρα ;)). Αυτά τα graphics είναι μέσα στο παιχνίδι ή είναι διαφημιστικό κόλπο της εταιρείας??

Είδα πρόσφατα ένα βιντεάκι του Κill Zone (PS3) και μου φυγαν τα μαλλιά (αφού είμαι..καραφλός τώρα ;)). Αυτά τα graphics είναι μέσα στο παιχνίδι ή είναι διαφημιστικό κόλπο της εταιρείας??

Το συγκεκριμενο παιχνιδι ηταν δημιουργια σε υπολογιστη και δεν ετρεχε πανω στο ps3.

Η εταιρια ομως υποσχεθηκε οτι το παιχνιδι θα ειναι και θα παιζει ετσι οπως το παρουσιασαν.

Αυτο το συγκεκριμενο βιντεακι σχολιαστηκε περισσοτερο απο ολα τα αλλα,λογω της αμφιβολου εφικτης ποιοτητας που εχει.

Πλεον ομως,μετα το βιντεο του msg4 που ειδα και ετρεχε πανω στο development kit ειμαι σχεδον σιγουρος οτι το τελικο παιχνιδι θα μοιαζει κατα πολυ απο αυτο που ειδες και εσυ :)

Με την βοήθεια και το software που παρέχει IBM στους developers προβλέπω πολύ σύντομα το ps3 να κάνει παπάδες.

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters)—IBM on Tuesday launched a set of software tools it hopes will spur wider interest in its upcoming Cell microprocessor that is key to the computing giant's return to profitable chipmaking.

 

International Business Machines Corp. has developed Cell jointly with Sony Corp. and Toshiba Corp., for use in Sony's PlayStation 3 video game console due out next year.

 

But IBM said the development kits will help programmers write software for the chip in areas such as medical imagery, aerospace and digital television.

 

"We view this as the jumping-off point where communities of interest can get started surrounding Cell and people can explore the full power of the architecture," said Ted Maeurer, head of the Sony Toshiba IBM Design Center in Austin, Texas.

 

"We think there will be a variety of interest for companies that might be doing digital content creation."

 

IBM is banking on the chip to help revive its flagging microchip division, which has lost more than $1 billion since 2002.

FLOPS, GPUs, and game consoles

 

Very high FLOPS figures are often quoted for inexpensive computer video cards and game consoles.

 

For example, the Xbox 360 coming out in 2005 has been announced as having a system floating point performance of 115.2 GFLOPS . By comparison, a general-purpose PC would have a FLOPS rating of only a few GFLOPS, if the performance of its CPU alone was considered. The TFLOPS ratings of the games consoles would appear to class them as supercomputers, if comparisons based on FLOPS alone were valid (ie. a rating of 2.005 TFLOPS would place the PS3 as the 200th fastest computer on the planet).

 

However, these FLOPS figures should be treated with caution, as they are not in general comparable like-for-like with FLOPS for a fully-programmable general-purpose CPU. The game console figures are based on total system performance (CPU + GPU). Most of the FLOPS performance for game consoles or video cards comes from their GPUs, which are deeply pipelined vector processors specialized for graphics operations, with only limited programmability. This is possible because 3D graphics operations are a classic example of a highly parallelizable problem which can easily be split between different execution units and pipelines, allowing a high speed gain to be obtained from scaling the number of logic gates, rather than clock speed alone.

Korea-based online gaming giant NCsoft is preparing to launch titles on next-generation consoles, according to chief executive Tack Jin Kim, who confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that development work is already underway.

 

The company, which is behind the world's largest massively multiplayer game series, Lineage, as well as titles including City of Heroes and Guild Wars, has until now focused exclusively on the PC platform.

 

However, Kim - who is founder and president as well as CEO of the firm - openly confirmed that the company is now "actively developing" for next-generation consoles, which he considers key to building the firm up in markets outside Korea.

 

NCsoft is already the largest gaming company in its native country, and its titles are proving a major draw at this week's G* games expo at the Kintex exhibition centre near the capital city, Seoul.

 

Kim did not discuss specifics of the company's development work on next-generation consoles, nor did he reveal which platforms the firm is working on - but sources close to NCsoft's European division revealed that Xbox 360 is not part of the company's plans at the moment, suggesting that the PS3 is the target platform for NCsoft's first console titles.

 

Speaking today at NCsoft's head offices in Seoul, Kim also confirmed to GamesIndustry.biz that a European development location is part of the firm's plan for the future, joining the company's other development studios - NC HQ Studios in Seoul, Guild Wars creators Arena.Net in California and Richard Garriott's NC Austin Studio.

Πάντως εγώ που το δα δεν τρελάθηκα..Καλό φαίνεται δεν αντιλέγω, αλλά σε επίπεδο γραφικών μάλλον SOF2 σε ένα καλό μηχάνημα θυμίζει.. :O

NEW YORK (FORTUNE) - More than 90 million PlayStation 2 consoles have been sold worldwide since the PS2's debut in 2000, compared with some 25 million Microsoft Xboxes sold since 2001. Even if the new Xbox 360 is a rousing success, Sony's dominance of the console universe is likely to continue, and there's a powerful new PlayStation coming next year.

 

The PS3, scheduled to be introduced in Japan in mid-2006 and in the U.S. a few months later, is expected to be technically more advanced than the Xbox 360 in many ways. Notably, it will include a high-definition DVD player intended to capitalize on the growing market for HDTV sets, which, of course, Sony also makes. (The Xbox 360 supports HD games, but it lacks the ability to play next-generation, prerecorded HD movies.)

 

Sony's CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, said recently that Sony will sell the PS3 at a loss in order to populate the world with Sony's favored high-definition DVD standard, known as Blu-ray. If millions of Blu-ray PlayStations find their way into living rooms, Sony figures, movie studios will be compelled to embrace it over the rival standard, known as HD-DVD. Yes, brace yourself for another Betamax vs. VHS standards war.

 

Sir Howard said the PS3 will sell for $300 to $400 and will come with a bundle of games, movies, and TV shows, many of which Sony also makes. The question is whether the titles will be bundled on Blu-ray DVD discs or on a built-in hard drive.

 

Because the first standalone Blu-ray DVD players are expected to cost $1,000 or so, Sony is essentially giving a free next-generation DVD player to every PS3 customer. That eases the pain (a little bit) for people faced with buying new, high-def versions of their favorite DVDs.

 

Of course, nothing is stopping Microsoft from adding a high-definition DVD player to the Xbox down the road, once the standards battle has been resolved.

 

How else does the PS3 stack up against the Xbox 360? It's based on a bodaciously powerful Cell processor developed by IBM and Toshiba, which appears to outmuscle the IBM PowerPC custom chip used in Microsoft's Xbox 360. Sony has also tapped nVidia to supply the graphics engine in the PS3, and it's going to be a whopper, with nearly double the rendering power of the top graphics card that nVidia now supplies to PC gaming enthusiasts. Again, on specs alone, the PS3 should have a graphics edge over the ATI-based Xbox 360.

 

Fancy hardware doesn't mean anything, though, if the people who write the games for the hardware can't take advantage of it. (Exhibit A: The PlayStation 2 is technically inferior to the original Xbox, but it's still the world's most popular gaming platform based on the selection of compelling game titles.)

 

At its launch the PS3 will be backward compatible with thousands of earlier PlayStation titles. But Microsoft knows software, and game developers are praising it for providing them the tools and support to build new titles for the Xbox 360.

 

So should you wait a year for the PS3 or buy the Xbox 360 today? Current Xbox owners are likely to upgrade to the 360, and current PS2 owners will probably stick with Sony. New gamers, however, have little reason to wait nearly a year for the PS3, and Microsoft is almost certain to gain some ground on Sony.

 

The one wild card: Sony could slash the price of the current PS2, perhaps to $100, making the $400 Xbox 360 seem less attractive.

 

Strike, counterstrike: It's all playing out like a good videogame. Only in this game, billions of dollars are at stake.

Wow!!! Απίστευτο! Μακάρι να είναι όντως έτσι! Βέβαια όταν διαβάζεις δηλώσεις του CEO της Sony στο οικονομικό site του CNN, τι πιθανότητες υπάρχουν να "διαβάζεις" απλά hype; Άρα κατά 95% θα δούμε το PS3 μέσα στο 2006 και με τιμή 300-400 ευρώ... :yahoo:

Υπό το καθεστός του παραπάνω δημοσιευμάτος και των αναφορών για πολλά προβληματικά 360 στις ΗΠΑ, θα έλεγα ότι μάλλον κρίνεται κακή αγορά η απόκτηση του Xbox 360 φέτος και γενικά πριν την κυκλοφορία του PS3... :whistle: Σε έναν περίπου χρόνο από τώρα η Premium έκδοση του 360 θα κοστίζει σίγουρα κάτω από 300 ευρώ, ενώ πιθανόν στην τιμή να συμπεριλαμβάνονται και hot games, όπως Halo 3... ;)

Κοίτα, λογικά θα το κάνουν όπως και με το PSP. Φαίνεται από το σημείο όπου ο Howard Stringer λέει ότι το PS3 θα κυκλοφορήσει Ιαπωνία στα μέσα του 2006, ΗΠΑ λίγους μήνες αργότερα και για Ευρώπη δεν κάνει αναφορά. ;) Αυτό έχει και την καλή πλευρά του, καθώς μπορεί στην Ευρώπη να το δούμε Χριστούγεννα 2006 με αρχές 2007, αλλά θα έχει ξεπεράσει τα "παιδικά νοσήματα" και θα έχει και αξιόλογα games στο lineup του. :)

Το Kameo μου άρεσε πάρα πολύ, αν και δεν μπορείς να πεις ότι είναι το παιχνίδι που σου μένει αξέχαστο. Το Condemned δεν το έχω παίξει, αλλά φαίνεται ενδιαφέρον. Νομίζω ότι θα κυκλοφορήσει και για PC, οπότε μάλλον εκεί θα το παίξω. Η μαγεία των games του Xbox 360 πάντως βρίσκεται στην HD ανάλυση. Εκεί καταλαβαίνεις next-gen. ;) Το ίδιο θα συμβαίνει και με το PS3. Οπότε όσο πιο αργά κυκλοφορήσει τόσο καλύτερα, μήπως και καταφέρουμε να αποκτήσουμε ποτέ HDTV σε λογική τιμή... :p

NEW YORK — For the first time in a decade Sony will be on the main exhibit floor of International CES, with what it claims is the “largest booth at the show,” which will encompass all of the company's divisions.

 

Mike Fasulo, chief marketing officer, said the objective of the 25,000-square-foot booth is “not only to collaborate across all of our divisions, but to show how consumer electronics is transforming consumer entertainment in the future.”

 

 

This, plus the Jan. 5 opening keynote at 8:30 a.m. at the Las Vegas Hilton Theater by Sony chairman/CEO Sir Howard Stringer, makes it the biggest presence the company has had at the show in recent memory.

 

Fasulo noted that at the entrance of Sony's mammoth booth will be a 220-seat theater which will show short videos of Sony entertainment and technologies in 4K technology and 5.1 Dolby Surround.

 

The booth itself will feature what Fasulo called several “pillars” which involve all aspects of HDTV, from broadcasting and professional equipment, to branded HDTVs and Blu ray, to other consumer products. PlayStation will also have a featured place at the new CES booth, as well as what Sony calls “e-Entertainment,” the newest developments in cellular phones, Walkman, Vaio PCs and LocationFree TV, among others.

 

Sony's “Backstage Theater” will also provide tech seminars, exclusive HD programs, Sony recording guests and what Fasulo called, “other special surprises.”

 

And the mammoth booth will feature a “digital lighthouse that will be a beacon for signaling all attendees towards it,” Fasulo said. It will also feature a broadcast center, but as he put it, “more on that later.”
