SFR will start by offering 3G services to corporate users in the major cities of Paris, Lille and Lyon. Service coverage will be extended to other French cities throughout the remainder of 2004. UMTS will be made available to consumers from June. SFR has confirmed that it will be offering dual-mode GSM/W-CDMA handsets so subscribers will be able to switch to GPRS outside of 3G service areas. SFR (Vodafone&Vivendi), will be the first French operator to launch commercial 3G services. It is reported to have spent €250 million to date on its network rollout having paid €4.95 billion for the UMTS concession back in July 2001. Market leader Orange is carrying out UMTS trials but has yet to commit itself to a start date while the third UMTS licence holder, Bouygues Telecom, is not expected to introduce 3G for at least another twelve months. February 16, 2004 Faster intranet, Internet and e-mail access Simple installation, configuration and operation Maximum security when accessing corporate networks As the first network operator in Germany, Vodafone is marketing the UMTS Mobile Connect Card, a terminal device for the third generation of mobile communication. The UMTS Mobile Connect Card by Vodafone gives mobile Notebook users the same levels of convenience "on the road" as when working in the office. The new data card has successfully completed many months of UMTS field testing by Vodafone and supports transmission speeds of up to 384 kbits/second, six times the speed of ISDN. Mobile users have access to highly complex IT applications while on the road. They can also send and receive e-mails and connect to the Internet and their corporate intranet. Vodafone already offers excellent-quality UMTS coverage in more than 200 cities. The UMTS Mobile Connect Card ships with detailed documentation and software. Installation is simplicity itself. A specially designed user interface, the "Vodafone Dashboard", permits intuitive operation. The Dashboard features a display showing signal strength, call duration, and the volume of data transferred. Standard Dashboard functions include sending and receiving SMS messages, and importing and exporting contact data. Thanks to end-to-end encryption, maximum standards of security can be achieved when the card is used in virtual private networks (VPN). If a Vodafone card contract with a data tariff is taken out when the UMTS Mobile Connect Card is purchased, the price is € 359* (including VAT). If no Vodafone card contract is signed, the UMTS Mobile Connect Card costs € 999 (including VAT). The new data card for notebooks will be available from 16th February onwards. The UMTS Mobile Connect Card is a Type II PC card with dual-band / dual-mode technology that can also use fast GPRS connections (four channels downstream / two channels upstream) as the transmission standard in regions without UMTS coverage. The operating systems supported are Windows XP Home, XP Professional, 2000, ME, NT 4.0 and Windows 98 (SE). Minimum Notebook requirements are 32 MB of RAM and 50 MB of hard disk space. H T-Mobile, χθες στην Αγγλία και τον προηγούμενο μήνα στη Γερμανία. Και οι δύο εταιρίες ξεκίνησαν τα trial από τον Οκτώβρη με 500 trial users! H Voda σε Αγγλία, Γερμανία, Ισπανία "ξεκίνησε" με την Office Mobile Card... και ακολουθούν οι υπόλοιπες υπηρεσίες τους επόμενους μήνες! Όλοι οι πάροχοι (και η ΤΙΜ στην Ελλάδα) βλέπουμε ότι προσφέρουν το σύνολο των υπηρεσιών UMTS σε αντίθεση με τη Voda, η οποία έως σήμερα "στοχεύει" στους corporate users - wireless internet & intranets. Next Monday Vodafone will be opening its Swedish 3G network with the introduction of the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS PC card - Vodafone Sweden's first 3G service. The 3G card will allow Vodafone's business customers to access their e-mail, calendars, the Internet and their company's internal networks from their laptops up to 10 times faster than currently possible with GPRS. The Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS datacard is Vodafone's new mobile PC card, the first product to be launched in Vodafone's range of 3G business mobile solutions. Like it 2G predecessor, the Vodafone Mobile Connect 3G/GPRS datacard comes with Vodafone's simple-to use "Plug & Play" solution and a user-friendly dashboard interface. The key difference is the mobile broadband transmission speed of up to 384 kbps, and the new high-volume data bundles. "This is the first, crucial stage of our 3G rollout, where we are allowing our customers faster remote access to their e-mail and office system. We have received very positive feedback during our customer trials with the 3G card over the last few months and we are now happy to launch the commercial data service. Initially, distribution of the card will be limited to Stockholm, Gothenburg, Malmo and Karlskrona and we will expand distribution further over the coming months," says Geraldine Wilson, Chief Commercial Officer at Vodafone Sweden. The 3G card is compatible with both Vodafone Sweden's 3G network - which is one of Europe's most extensive 3G network - and Vodafone Sweden's GPRS network. This means that users can access their e-mail, for example, even when they are outside the 3G-network coverage area. High-volume data bundles Vodafone offers two new high volume data bundles - 50 MB and 150 MB. These bundles cost 400 SEK/month (50MB) and 900 SEK/month (150MB) for customers who combine their voice and data subscription at Vodafone. The largest bundle gives a price of only 6 SEK/MB. It is also possible to subscribe for a separate data only subscription for 50SEK extra per month, and the bundles then cost SEK450 SEK/month (50 MB) and 950 SEK/month (150 MB). As an introductory offer, anyone signing up for either the 50MB or the 150MB bundle before April 30 2004 will have 50 MB of extra data traffic per month for free for three months. :) The recommended retail price for the 3G-card with a 12 month data subscription is 3395 SEK. Comparison examples speed 3G and GPRS: To get a comparative idea of the amount of data 1 MB includes, a normal e-mail without an attachment is between 1 KB - 10 KB in size. The 3G network is up to 10 times faster than GPRS. To put this into a comparative perspective, a 400-KB PowerPoint presentation (about 10 pages) takes around 20 seconds to download at the highest 3G speed. Προφανώς, ο συνδρομητής πρέπει να πληροί κάποιες προϋποθέσεις όπως π.χ. να χρησιμοποιεί το GPRS και τα MMS... ΤΩΡΑ τι ακριβώς κάνουν στην ελληνική Voda... εκεί μέσα μόνο ξέρουν και οι συνεργαζόμενες με αυτήν εταιρίες! :wacko: Το Greek VF UMTS... είναι όντως γεγονός... 15 -περίπου- μέρες θα testάρουν το δίκτυο οι trial users. Το σήμα είναι "προβληματικό" ... ΣΕ ΟΛΕΣ τις εταιρίες... πρέπει να ΠΡΟΣΕΞΟΥΝ! >>> ΠΡΟΣ VODAFONE - ΦΡΟΝΤΙΣΤΕ ΝΑ ΕΠΕΚΤΕΙΝΕΤΕ ΤΟ ΔΙΚΤΥΟ ΣΕ ΑΡΚΕΤΕΣ ΠΟΛΕΙΣ ΤΗΣ ΕΛΛΑΔΑΣ.
