he blood for the most part is usually the wrestler's real blood. When blood is planned to appear in a match, i.e. it is staged to happen in advance and doesn't happen by ****dent, then a wrestler "blades" himself. This means that after receiving a chair shot to the head for example, a wrestler will fall down to the ground and then off-camera take out a blade which is hidden in an item of their attire and then make a small cut in the appropriate part of the body (usually the forehead), the blade is then usually disposed of on the ground or under the ring etc and when the wrestler comes back up they will then appear to have been "busted open" by the their opponent.
However, "blading" isn't always inconspicuous and isn't always achieved off-camera; there have been occasions when it can be quite obviously seen that a wrestler is actually blading.
In the past, some wrestlers and promoters have refused to use the blading technique so fake blood packs have been used, i.e. the wrestler carries a small pack of fake blood with them hidden in their attire and then bust it open when necessary, giving a similar "busted open" effect.
