This is a smart little game. It plays along the same kind of lines as Snails / Worms where you have to set your angle and power of the shot, but as this game is played from a top down view, it adds an extra dimension to it all. It took me a couple of goes to get the hang of aiming, but once I did, I was able to pin point the enemy sheep with almost every shot (the wind constantly changes, so there’s always the chance of screwing up your shot). There definitely seems to be a skill to the aiming and once you do get it, you’re able to nuke the sheep without a problem. Saying that, don’t think that the game is easy as there are a few different levels of computer players. The first one is easy (little more then a target to practice on). The second one seemed quite hard at first, but I can now beat it most. The third level of difficulty is very hard, but I thought that about the other level at first. In all, it’s a good little game that manages to put a new twist on a familiar game style. It was a great laugh to play, especially against another player and there’s the promise of free extras and upgrades to come which should extend the game’s life span.

Installation Notes and Minimum Specifications

AoE PPC uses Install Shield, and installs much like any other standard PocketPC application. However, due to the large size of the game, the installs are broken into three pieces; the main game, the scenarios, and the campaigns. Players need only install the main game to play, but if they want access to the scenarios or campaigns, they must install each of these separately using Install shield. Players may delete particular scenarios or campaigns that they do not want after they are installed in order to save space.

Storage requirements for AoE PPC are as follows:

Main game only: StrongArm/Xscale 6MB; MIPS 6.1MB

Campaigns 8.1MB

Scenarios 2.8MB

Save games typically requires 150K to 300K each; however, large campaigns can require upwards of 700K per save. AoE PPC requires about 32MB of free ram to run.

AoE PPC is compatible with any Win 3.0 CE or higher PocketPC device with a StrongARM or Xscale processor, and with a minimum of 32MB RAM, and supporting 12-bit or 16-bit color.
