Part of 2G and 3G networks in Bulgaria will be switched off

Part of 2G and 3G networks in Bulgaria will be stopped this year, CRC Chairman Ivan Dimitrov announced in an interview with BNR. As the main reason for the taking of this move, Dimitrov points out the preponderance of 4G and 5G networks in the country, as well as the provision of maximum quality services to Bulgarian consumers.

Part of 2G and 3G networks in Bulgaria will be switched off in 2025, said Ivan Dimitrov - Chairman of the Communications Regulation Commission. This decision has been reached so that operators can better deploy the capabilities of their 4G and 5G networks.

The frequency resource is yet to be re-established and the opportunity to better implement the networks in 4G and 5G is to be created. There are 3 large enterprises in Bulgaria with national coverage. Tests have begun to exclude some of the active mobile networks, which are an older type, which do not provide the services required by consumers nowadays, Dimitrov said.

According to him, Bulgaria has become a leader in the Balkans in terms of the frequency resource provided for telecoms to build "sufficiently reliable, working with high quality networks."

It concludes with the assurance that the CRC will monitor consumers to reach the maximum quality services, and the tests of 6G on the territory of the country have already started.
