A spokesperson from Hotels.com also confirmed data loss, which had been previously reported by Ernst & Young by confirming that one of its employees' laptop had been stolen from his car in Texas. According to the accounting firm, the computer stolen included some basic data protection mechanisms, like passwords. Hotels.com sent a letter to its clients informing of this incident: "Recently, Hotels.com was informed by its outside auditor, Ernst & Young, that one of Ernst & Young's employees had his laptop computer stolen. Unfortunately, the computer contained certain information about customer transactions with Hotels.com, and other sites through which we provide booking services directly to customers, from 2002 through 2004" In the same letter, Hotels.com confirmed that information stolen included names, addresses and credit and debit card data. This is not the first time that Ernst & Young reports loss of a laptop with confidential information.
