"Just moments ago, Michael Dell announced that they will be releasing the next version of the Axim Pocket PC, called the x3. While images of this device were leaked to the public a few week ago, this is the first official announcement of the devices from Dell. No real information was released except for the fact that there will be two models; a wireless one and a non-wireless one.

 

Exact specifications, pricing, and release date were not announced. I can assure you that when the x3's official launch date is announced, I will have a full review of both of these Axim x3 units. Until then, a couple of images... Notice the difference between the actual device and the leaked picture (leaked on the left, real on the right). What really stands out is the lack of the blue trim and blue WiFi antenna on the production unit..."

Dell Axim X3 To Launch October 15

 

"The Round Rock, Texas-based company will introduce its Axim X3 in a press conference scheduled for this coming Wednesday, it said in an e-mail Thursday. The new handheld, which Dell has said will be thinner and lighter than its current device, the Axim X5, will be the first Dell handheld to come with wireless capabilities. Documents the Federal Communications Commission issued this month suggest that Dell will market two versions of the Axim X3--one with wireless and one without. The more expensive of the two will likely cost about $325 . It is expected to include a faster processor and 802.11 wireless connectivity. The Axim X3 without wireless connectivity is expected to cost about $200 . "

With the Axim X5, Dell vaulted into the Pocket PC world, capturing 37% of the market in less than one year. One of the most apparent reasons for this instant user base has to be the price. At 5 ounces, the Axim X3 is 28 percent lighter than its predecessor, and at .55 inches, 17 percent thinner. The Dell Axim X5’s price was a refreshing change to the $400.00 plus Pocket PCs. Those that did not like the X5 complained about the lack of SDIO availability and called the X5 names like “a brick”. I personally love the looks of the X5 and you can not complain about the price at all, but I too desire a smaller PPC.

 

Enter the Dell Axim X3, smaller, thinner, lighter, SDIO availability and even built in wireless. This addresses all the major complaints of non-Axim supporters. Knowing the Pocket PC community and its loyalty to certain companies, many will find a new list of complaints with the X3 also. Even Dell Axim X5 owners are already complaining about the lack of the CF slot. This does not bother me at all considering I rarely use my CF slot anyway and when I do it is for WiFi, which comes built in on the higher end model.

 

The X3 comes in 3 flavors, Basic (300mhz w/ 32mb RAM and 32mb ROM), Advanced (400mhz w/ 64mb RAM and 64mb ROM), and Advanced w/ WiFi (400mhz w/ 64mb RAM and 64mb ROM).

 

χαρακτηριστικά να πω ότι φοράει 400mhz Intel PXA 263 Processor και 64mb SDRAM και 64mb Intel StrataFlash ROM.
